A friend of mine was complaining about getting Code Red inside their
private network at work.   Apparently, all the "external" servers were
patched, but it managed to get inside their intranet and infect all of
the personal servers.

Probably someone with a laptop who had the worm on their machine, 
plugged it into the intranet, and started it running on the LAN.
