Yes, this is possible. However, there are issues to address/consider... Why don't you simply externally describe the physical file? You can still use it as a program described file. (I can probably dig up a utility I have which will create DDS specs from internal F and I specs.) Many S36 files are created/deleted "on the fly" (BLDFILE, COPYDATA, #GSORT, DISP-NEW, ...). Logical files built over a physical will cause an OCL DELETE operation to bomb.
