Gary, Ive used FTP quite a few times between PC,NT,Sun,Linux,AS400. All seems to hang together OK, with the usual few caveats. 1. FTP security is pretty loose - but there are a number of 3rd party products that tighthen it up via exit programs, etc. 2. Error trapping aint so good - all goes to a log file, so no MONMSG ( unless get 3rdparty products). 3. one machine client, one machine server. Server needs the security the most. 4. New options available in V5R1 for better FTP security, including encryption. 5. WS_FTP PC client FTP Program from IPSWITCH can be used ( among others ) to do a bit of testing against your Server (LE version is Free for non-business use). 6. Plenty of articles on WEB regarding how FTP works. Unfortunately, a lot on the MIDRANGECOMPUTING.com who went broke. Im sure as400network.com has a few as well though. We know very little about it. Can anyone suggest a book (or any other type of media) that can help us learn how to do this? Presently we are using SNADS over a dialup connection that is very slow and very unreliable.
