I've heard all of this before as well.  You know what's
funny, it's not true at all.

When I did my online chat at Search400.com on e-RPG a few
months ago, I asked the group a question.  That question was
"how many are doing new development in RPG?"

You know what.  Everyone say "I am!"  No one said "Not me."

I only asked the question because I was sick of hearing
things like "No one is doing new development in RPG" from so
called "gurus" in the industry trying to sway people to some
other language (java, VB, C, Perl, Python, etc...).  Proved
em all wrong.  And I never had a doubt.
