Re: iSeries Misconceptions

Rob,

We have a security application that is predominately written in RPG IV.
Because it does not require much user interaction after setup (just review
reports and mount a backup tape when prompted) it is only 5250.  (There is
something to be said about _good_ intuitive GUI's for _non_heads-down data
entry use.)  However, all reports are automatically exported to the IFS
where a user can bring them into a PC program such as Excel.  And we
intentionally structured the program such that it lends itself to
client/server, and in the next release we will most likely include a Windows
or browser client.  Why?  No, it doesn't change the application's
functionality - especially because of our level of user interaction.
However, it looks pretty.  So we will add this functionality to the product,
not because it will greatly enhance the product, but because it will enhance
its marketability.  Of course we will also add enhancements that really will
make the product better.
