I would not view it as a pirated copy. If they are on V4R2, AND on
Software Subscription, they have paid for and are entitled to move to a
new version of OS/400. If they can now no longer order that version from
IBM, I see no legal, ethical or moral problem (and I doubt IBM would
either) in BORROWING a set of CD's to install V4R4. They have no other
choice really.

The great Catch-22 stuck place:
This M36 customer needs to upgrade OS/400. They are at V4R2 and haven't
ever CUMed. They are having what appear to be system issues with their
new
ethernet LAN/TCP/IP connections. They can CUM V4R2 -- that's ok. IBM
will
support that. But, for the effort, it would make sense to upgrade to
V4R4/CUM (the last OS that M36 works on) but IBM won't sell it to them
since
IBM is further up the release road. They aren't willing to have a pirate
copy of V4R4/CUM so what can they do?
