I don't have any hard numbers to prove it, but I suspect that Intel's decision to market a PII 266 related more to optimising revenue than to pushing the technology limits. It's sort of funny to see software professionals grumble that they aren't getting their money's worth out of what is essentially a software upgrade. Personally, I'm glad my machine isn't down all weekend for an interactive horsepower boost!
