United States law relative to layoffs only covers companies with more then 100 employees. A summary of applicable US law is covered on the following web site: http://www.dol.gov/dol/asp/public/programs/handbook/layoffs.htm A key question is how they count employees; I'm not sure whether you can just count the employees in the subsidiary; IIR may be able to avoid liability since they, and the rest of their subsidiaries, aren't in the US. If I was one of the Midrange Computing employees who got nothing, I would have a long conversation with the area DOL (Department of Labor) office about exactly what my rights were, and exactly what the legal obligations of IIR are...
