Tim, I can recall a similar situation. In our case the cause was a bad twisted-pair cable somewhere on our Ethernet network. Two of the wires crossed and our AS/400 was so busy logging hardware errors that no other activity was possible. We could sign on to the console, but just the signon took ten minutes or more. No messages were logged to history, but in SST we could find the hardware errors logged; have you looked there?
