  • Subject: RE: windows drive letter mapping - CAE

Well, let's see... I have a Microsoft operating system, I wonder
if they changed everything when they built Windows 2000? If there
isn't a config.sys file, they probably have a completely new
mechanism for storing that information...

I searched my hard drive and found the following in:

     C:\WINNT\system32\config.NT

So they changed everything! It is completely different! They
used a brand new file name... I'm guessing that when they
invent the next "real" operating system, they will find another
brand new way to implement the MS-DOS underpinnings that they have
built their fragile house of cards on top of...

REM Windows MS-DOS Startup File
REM
REM CONFIG.SYS vs CONFIG.NT
REM CONFIG.SYS is not used to initialize the MS-DOS environment.
REM CONFIG.NT is used to initialize the MS-DOS environment unless a
REM different startup file is specified in an application's PIF.
REM
REM <SNIP></SNIP>
dos=high, umb
device=%SystemRoot%\system32\himem.sys
files=40
