Have tried any of the tracert tools that can be loaded on the AS/400 to see 
what's reported? Do you have an NT server card (whatever its nom de jour is 
nowadays) on this AS/400? Are you running NetServer on this AS/400, and if so, 
are any of the WINS properties set for it?

Minor configuration issues for those last two can result in similar symptoms.
