We have an AS/400 620 on V4R4. It is not particularly overworked and the
problem does not seem to be related to system activity. Anyway ... It has
trouble pinging.

You can ping a printer or AS/400, and it will work for a while (30-60
minutes), then it either quits working, or only the first attempt is
successful. If you power off/on the remote device it will usually, but not
always, be able to ping it again (for a while). Sometimes, it will regain
the ability to ping these devices without power off/on, but sometimes not.
The devices which it is unable to ping are always pingable, at all times,
from your PC or any other of our AS/400's (also on V4R4).

If it were just ping I wouldn't worry about it, but it seems to also affect
the ability, in general, of the AS/400 to communicate with these devices.
e.g. If it's a printer, it will quit printing.

If it's any help, it never seems to be unable to ping a PC, just network
printers (e.g. InfoPrint 21) and other AS/400's.
