Ken, The first I remember was the ole 5256 printer. Remember the stupid ribbons in THOSE things ? We had those on a S/38. When we upgraded to the AS/400 we replaced those with the 4224's. I will NEVER forget a buddy of mine and I setting the first one of those things up. We had it all done, paper loaded, COVER UP and sent something to it to print and is was SLOWER a 5256... We about DIED. Then we shut the cover and it took off printing like crazy... Those "new fangled thangs"... <BG> Chuck ken shields wrote: > I started my career back in 1966, guess I must be one of the grey > members. > Don't take long. > Since we're waxing nostalgic here, the first printer I ever setup was an > IBM 401 model, print hammers, wired panel board and all. > The 52,, series printers did a remarkable job, and in general gave a lot > less trouble than some of the newer printers. > Hey ...that's just progress. > The way technology is going today, I suspect all printers will > eventually be a thing of the past. > > Douglas Handy wrote: > > > > Chuck, > > > > >agree to get rid of the LAST one we had (which was NOTHING but > > >trouble) > > > > I put in a 5225-4 at a client back in Feb 1982, to use as the system >printer for > > a S/34.
