I disagree Jim. Win95, based on the win32 api was an order of magnitude better than win3.1. And the win32 api was an outstanding product. Ignorant as I am of the mac os and unix at that time, I dare say win32 was innovative. All aspects of the windows os made accessible to the pgmr via an api. Memory mgmt, tasks, syncronzing locks, file io, window mgmt, a device context that abstracted the printer and display hardware below the api level, etc. Very comprehensive, very complete. Add an oop language such as c++ and a pgmr was much more productive on win95 than win3.1.
