Well, that's an interesting decision. I don't want to ever be the sort of selfish guy who would just hop on the Microsoft bandwagon just because it looks like longest term money. I'd like to think that I consider the people I work and I'm not just after the money. So I'd have a closer look at Sun's technologies (I've known some people who have had good success implementing some of those servers). I'd also consider the Oracle market. Plus, I would look closely at some of Microsoft's market. That is so tough because the amount of dishonesty there. I think they are the only company that has been taken to court over their use of vaporware to manipulate the market. You know, announcing what looks like it could really be a good solution just so that the marketplace won't throw support behind existing good technologies. But I'm pretty sure I'd stick with Java if I could. You know, unless Java disappears overnight. Chris Rehm javadisciple@earthlink.net If you believe that the best technology wins the marketplace, you haven't been paying attention. ----- Original Message ----- From: ken shields To: MIDRANGE-L Sent: Wednesday, July 04, 2001 4:13 AM Subject: Hypothetical Gentlemen/women Assuming for a moment, that the IBM midrange line of computers encountered an untimely demise, what in your estimation would be next best line of technology to persue?
