My suggestion to you: Don't worry about it. Uninstall client access and reinstall it. Other than that, hosts is an ASCII text file and can be edited very easily with Win/Notepad. Rename the hosts file back to it's original name (C:\windows\system32\hosts.), call it up in an editor and stick the correct IP address in there. See if that does it for you. I am not certain if CA does that, but some clients will keep a copy of the last IP address resolved to and use that if the DNS/Hosts entry doesn't resolve. OK, when configing the environment, this operator put the wrong address for the host server. Instead of 1.2.3.4 he did 1.2.3.9. He's been summarily executed. :) And since the great minds that designed CA don't allow you to change that without deleting the hosts file, I renamed the hosts file and rebooted. No hosts file in the winnt\system32\yaddayaddayadda... And no DNS in use. THis is a simple ethernet config. Lo and behold, supportline tells me that the number can only come from the hosts file or the DNS...which I expected, but aren't now at issue. But, when I try to config that connection, it STILL comes up with the original and erronious 1.2.3.9 IP address.... Where the heck is it getting the address from? IBM says it's not a support issue anymore, it's a "billable line" issue now....but, their software has to be getting it from somewhere... ANyone have a clue where?? I've even DELETED the old config and tried to recreate (post host file rename), and it still comes up with the wrong and old IP... Where is it getting that old and bad IP? Thanks...:) Don in DC +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
