Yes, Me should be enough of a reason to say phooey to microsoft.  If not,
the forced registration piece in xp should do it.  With forced registration,
upgrading the motherboard or harddrive may force you to reregister the
software which may involve MAILING (as in in an envelope with a stamp) proof
that that is what you're doing - not actually copying it onto another
computer.  I'm not opposed to proving I have the software but imagine having
a problem that turns your software off.  Microsoft isn't like IBM, and pc
hardware isn't like IBM hardware.

Enough of that gripe.  I didn't have any Me issues until I tried to use
Code/400 with it.  It was very unstable with Code.  Well, a little more
griping: There is no upgrade from Me to W2K so I held out a long time.
Don't anyone think there is only one version of XP.  There is a Win9x
version and a NT/W2K version (plus the server versions) - at least for
pricing because to upgrade from W2K costs more than from Win9x.
