I used to work at ASNA so hopefully most of this is still true. A runtime license (Chargeable) is needed if you wish to use a DB2/400-like local database on the PC - this is called Acceler8DB. If you are simply doing Client/Server then you just need to buy a number of user access licenses for the server. (this depends on the number of concurrent users accessing the server. The server can be AS/400 or NT running the ASNA DB2/400 look-alike database Acceler8DB. Database access is faster than ODBC so you need to weigh up cost versus speed of access. ASNA used to offer a free trial of Visual RPG so contact them for details. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Erhardt" <ERHARDT@baldwinhq.com> To: <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 26, 2001 12:45 PM Subject: RE: Visual RPG. I've never used ASNA's product but from what I'm told the major differences are cost (you need a runtime license for each workstation) and implementation, I believe that you need another product to access DB2/400 information. > -----Original Message----- > From: Pete Hall [SMTP:pbhall@execpc.com] > Sent: Monday, June 25, 2001 11:40 PM > To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com > Subject: Re: Visual RPG. > > At 15:17 06/25/2001, Steve Smith wrote: > >I am new to this forum so this may not be the right place, but am going > to > >shoot it out anyway.
