>It would seem that most >Linux systems and other systems running non-Windoze OS's would be less >vulnerable on the basis that they are being administered by >technically-minded folk and would be more likely to be using a firewall I got such a kick out of this statement. Unix and particularly Linux have more than their share of gee-whiz kids slapping together just enough layered shareware crap to get their systems running. I don't think any system has cornered the market on responsible computing. I've had folks spout the same half-baked logic to me as a case against the AS/400. Since the AS/400 doesn't require a trained administrator the people who run it obviously don't know how to configure it in an advanced environment. Our Unix system will definitely be more secure because of all the highly-compensated administrators we've hired to keep it running. The first thing I do when I find a new web site for a reputable business is try some Hacking 101 techniques to see if they know the basics of securing web data. I've found glaring exposures on Unix/Apache, NT/IIS, and iSeries/Domino sites for a wide range of companies. I know this thread is spinning out of control and never really was on topic, but please don't stop. It's starting to get pretty good. -Jim James Damato Manager - Technical Administration Dollar General Corporation <mailto:jdamato@dollargeneral.com> +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
