Carl, You can look at the IBM RedBook SG24-5190-00 to help you understand routes on the AS/400. I'm no expert, and this may not help, but we went through something similar in order to allow access to our AS/400 via the internet through a firewall. Bascially, we found that you have to remove the default route (permanently) and insert each network manually in the route table with it's corresponding gateway. Here is one of our screens for example: Work with TCP/IP Routes System: AS0000 Type options, press Enter. 1=Add 2=Change 4=Remove 5=Display Route Subnet Next Preferred Opt Destination Mask Hop Interface 64.32.0.0 255.255.0.0 128.1.0.116 *NONE 128.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 128.1.0.1 *NONE 196.3.0.0 255.255.0.0 128.1.0.116 *NONE 200.50.0.0 255.255.255.0 128.1.0.116 *NONE 208.169.0.0 255.255.0.0 128.1.0.116 *NONE Bottom F3=Exit F5=Refresh F6=Print list F11=Display type of service F12=Cancel F17=Top F18=Bottom Our internal Lan uses 128.1.0.1 as the gateway, the remaining IP addresses/networks use the 128.1.0.116 firewall/router. The only disadvantage is that each Route Destination network has to be entered manually (this will be a minor headache for us as we may have many ISP networks to deal with). This may not be a big deal for you since it seems that you have a fixed server list you are communicating with. Hope this helps, Jose Amable Rodriguez Dominican Knits, S.A. Basically the code will attempt to FTP to a site on the internet over the company's existing T1. I ping the FTP server first to see if the route is there. If I can not get a return on my ping I want to start a PPP dial up connection to an ISP, and then do the FTP over the dial up line. All the pieces work fine, except one. In my PPP profile I have set that the dial up connection gets assigned the default route. If I currently have a default route set up in my routing table, the PPP connection will not work, it says there is already a default route set up. If I remove the default route on the AS400, the PPP connection works fine and the data is routed over the dial up to the internet. All of my customer's systems already have a default route set up on their AS400 pointing to the local router so the data is moved over their WAN. The only way I see to solve this problem is to programmatically remove the default route in the routing table, start my PTP PPP connection, do my FTP, end the PPP connection and then programmatically add the default route entry back to the AS400. This seems less than elegant. Any better ideas? cjg Carl J.
