I have a client that uses a web server running on
IIS (NT Server) that pulls data from the AS/400 via SQL calls. The SQL
commands are created dynamically depending on which of their customers is logged
in, what items they wish to perform a stock check on, etc. Everything is
working well, but they would like to speed up the response time. We have
one bottle neck (due to budget requirements) of a dual-channel ISDN line (i.e.
128K) connecting the web server to their ISP. However, I think that we can
speed up the process between the NT server and AS/400. The results of the
SQL calls are usually 200 - 300 rows.
I have two questions. First, I would think
this scenario would lend itself to stored procedures. However, I have not
ever personally used them, so can anyone suggest where I might find some good
info? Second, does anyone know of any new database functionality in V5R1
that I should investigate using here? (They are going to be upgrading in
the next couple of months.)
Thanks in advance for your
suggestions!
