I think the problem may be that you are sending the status message (by the
way, MSGTYPE(*STATUS) TOPGMQ(*EXT) is correct) and then exiting the
program. Try sticking in a little DLYJOB before exiting - you should see
the status message appear, and hang around during the DLYJOB.
If you want the messages to stay 'permanently', send them as *COMP to
TOPGMQ(*PRV) and, assuming there's a message subfile on the calling
display, you'll see them all, but not *until* the program exits
(effectively complete reverse of a status message).

The job is being submitted so I capture (receive)the message (which works
find) first.  I then want the submission message to appear at the bottom of
the screen.  Users will submit multiple jobs.

Are those statements in the same order in your program as in your email?
That is, you receive the message then you send it? Shouldn't you send, then
receive?
