Well, I hadn't considered the thought that you were thinking of an alias to
the *USRPRF, as opposed to a longer object name. Certainly an alias is
feasible, the question is if IBM considers it strategic enough to warrant
the time investment. My suspicion is that it's not high on their list.

Al, I think Peter was talking about a user Alias longer than 10 character
that becomes part of the user profile. The native signon would be by the 10
char user profile object name like normal. The alias would normally be
identical to the standard user name, but could be optionally changed to be
longer than 10.

Note: this is not a hot topic with me, I can just see how it could be of
benefit if dealing with networked resources such as QNTC and the like.....

I would be surprised. They have been bastardizing the database to be SQL
compliant, but I doubt that they would considering that for objects in
QSYS. Furthermore, think about the number of system supplied files have
the user profile field in them.

Hi Al,

I don't either, but I've already seen them provide longer names under the
covers with SQL tables. Maybe they'll do something similar with user
profiles -- a 10-character AS400 userid and a related 128-character userid
for other networks, something like they do with system directory entries
and
SMTP email addresses.
