Debbie: We have ditched all our pagers in favor of digital cell phones. One number to remember is nice. Our provider is Sprint PCS and we send short text messages from the AS400 to our cell phones. Also Sprint has a TAPI 1.5 gateway number so any product that support TAPI can send messages. We are also using What't UP gold to monitor our network and it also sends messages to our cell phones. Since most people that carry a pager also carry a cell phone, it makes more sense to only carry a single device. As a side note, I used to carry a pager, cell phone and palm computer (either a Palm Pilot or Pocket PC) so when a customer had an issue I could dial up on my pocket PC attached to my cell phone. As cool as that was, I now have Kyocera's new Smartphone (QCP-6035). It is a Palm powered phone and runs any Palm OS application. So I have a telnet emulator on it and can now dial my clients AS/400s, routers, etc. directly from my phone. Sure it is small, but it works and gets the job done. cjg Carl J. We are not very satisfied with our current pager company (Arch) and are looking for a replacement. I am looking for some feed back regarding companies serving the Northeast Ohio area. Good experiences? Bad experiences? A company whom you would or wouldn't refer? Also, is there anyone who is doing in-house paging from their AS400 possibly using RPG/ICF file as opposed to utilizing an external software product like Robot? We currently use an RPG program to page our programmer on call. It is very basic and only dials the pager number and upon making a connection a "tone only" page is sent to the pager (analog, not digital). We would like to refine this to send a numeric page to the pager (digital). If this is a little too off topic, you may respond to me privately.
