Lotus has a solution for this on their support website (support.lotus.com). It
is described in document #179577 titled "MAPS Relay Spam Stopper Adds Lotus
Domin 4.6x Servers to Its BlackList".

Our Notes Administratior tells me that we implemented this fix and have tested
it successfully.

Subject: How to stop mail relaying (SPAM) on Domino mail server

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
Content-Type: text/plain;

My apologies for posting a Domino problem on the midrange list, but I =
felt someone must of had a similar problem...

Our Domino mail server is being over-run with bogus email addresses =
(over 400 in less than 1 hour), apparently by a spammer attempting to =
use it to relay email. We searched the Domino site which had the =
following solution...

 Solution:

To do this, set the following parameters on the Server Configuration =
document:

  1. Open the Server Configuration document for the server on which you =
want to restrict relaying.
  2. Select the Router/SMTP tab, and the Restrictions and Controls tab.
  3. Then select the SMTP Inbound Controls tab, and under the Inbound =
Relay Controls section, set the following values:

Allow messages from external internet domains to be sent only to =
the following internet domains: <blank>

Deny messages from external internet domains to be sent to the =
following internet domains: *

Allow messages only from the following external internet hosts to =
be sent to external internet domains: <blank>

Deny messages from the following external internet hosts to be =
sent to external internet domains: *
  4. Stop and restart the SMTP task.
However, when we made this setting, the administrator account was the =
only account able to send out email, so temporarily we have had to =
remove the recommended fix, and are continuing to be bombarded with =
spam. Has anyone experienced this and found a remedy? Any help would be =
appreciated.

TIA,
Kenny Breeding
