1) No one dials into a PC. Normally they dial into the Cisco router. From there they get full access. To control other PC's they use Tivoli (replacement under evaluation). The router is a cheaper and more efficient solution than either using a bank of modems on a PC or a bank of PC's with modems for dial in. And the fun part is that work will hook up the PC they provided for my home use shortly using DSL. This should be faster than the 2nd phone line I currently turn in on my expense reports. We had the W2k on the ?ipcs?. We removed that awhile ago. But they want me to reconfigure it again. I forget why we dropped it - probably for a faster PC. I think the command you are looking for is WRKNWSD for Work with Network Server Descriptions. (Think W2K, not NT). Options include: 1=Create 2=Change 3=Copy 4=Delete 5=Display 6=Print 9=Retrieve Source... 8=Work with Status 10=Add link 11=Remove link 12=Work with NWS Storage Spaces... I assume printing is done to ip attached printers. what about writing to a cd rom or laser disk? or attaching modems so that remote tech support of the nt appl can dial in and diagnose a problem? also, while I am asking, is there a WrkNtSvr cmd that allows the iseries user to see all the nt servers on the system, provides options for booting the server, shows all the processes running on it ? thanks, Steve Richter -----Original Message----- From: Chuck Morehead <cbmorehead@nokuse.com> To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com> Date: Thursday, May 24, 2001 11:55 AM Subject: Re: NT Server consolidation Phil, Virus are OS and application based, as opposed hardware based. Therefore you should run virus protection software on NT servers running on an AS/400, just as you would any other NT server.
