Dan, Performance Manager is the one that sends data back to IBM for analysis. You would generally have either Performance Manager OR Performance Tools (although they both use the same STRPFRMON to get data). With Performance Tools, I think the manager feature is designed for when you have machines in a network all sending performance data back to a central system for analysis. The central machine doing the analysis for the rest would have the manager feature, the rest would have the agent (although this can prove to be a costly licensing exercise). You can print some basic reports with the agent feature but need the manager feature to get all functionality. BEST/1 is definitely part of Performance Tools, but I can't remember offhand whether you need the manager feature or not. There is a table in the the Performance Tools Manual for each version that has a break down of every command and which feature you need. By the way, STRPFRMON is part of the base OS, BUT, I'm about to upgrade to V4R5 and the PSP for that version says it's the last version that will support STRPFRMON. From V5R1 onwards it seems you'll have to use the Performance Collection facilities in Ops Navigator. HTH. However, I have noticed the Manager & Agent Features of PT. Do I need PT on each AS/400 that is to report back to the Corp/CMS box? I should mention that we do not have any noticeable performance problems and that we are attempting to use this data to help us size our new replacement iSeries boxes. In perusing the PT manual, I see a reference to BEST/1 capacity planner. It appears to be available only on our boxes that have PT installed.
