  • Subject: Perf. Tools vs. Management

We have seven AS/400s as follows with the Performance LPPs installed:

V3R2 - Devlpmnt 5763PM1 - Performance Management/400
                 5763PT1 - Performance Tools/400
                 5763PT1 - Performance Tools/400 - Manager Feature
Note that 5763PT1 Agent Feature is NOT installed

V3R7 - Corp/CMS 5716PT1 - Performance Tools/400
                 5716PT1 - Performance Tools/400 - Manager Feature
                 5716PT1 - Performance Tools/400 - Agent Feature

V3R7 - branch 5716PM1 - Performance Management/400

V3R7 - branch 5716PM1 - Performance Management/400

V3R7 - branch 5716PM1 - Performance Management/400

V4R3 - branch 5769PM1 - Performance Management/400
                 5769PT1 - Performance Tools for AS/400
                 5769PT1 - Performance Tools - Manager Feature
Note that 5763PT1 Agent Feature is NOT installed

V4R4 - branch 5769PM1 - Performance Management/400

abbreviations:
PM - Performance Management
PT - Performance Tools

I have been told that the PT on our Corp/CMS box can/will collect the PM data
from all of the other boxes and produce reports on Corp/CMS box. However, I
have noticed the Manager & Agent Features of PT. Do I need PT on each AS/400
that is to report back to the Corp/CMS box?

I should mention that we do not have any noticeable performance problems and
that we are attempting to use this data to help us size our new replacement
iSeries boxes. In perusing the PT manual, I see a reference to BEST/1
capacity planner. It appears to be available only on our boxes that have PT
installed.

Any comments / advice appreciated.
