It is just to hard for IBM to give a time for all systems, since the speed is so different from a 170 to a 840. They should not even give a time. The best thing to do is to keep a log for your machine and go by that. >>> MWalter@hanoverwire.com 05/15/01 03:25PM >>> Don't hassle it. Tell your boss it took longer and play an extra 9 holes : -) Mark Walter Sr. Programmer/Analyst Hanover Wire Cloth a div of CCX, Inc. mwalter@hanoverwire.com http://www.hanoverwire.com 717.637.3795 Ext.3040 "Steve Richter" <srichter@AutoCoder To: <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com> .com> cc: Sent by: Subject: why cum ptf apply faster than predicted? owner-midrange-l@mi drange.com 05/15/01 11:33 AM Please respond to MIDRANGE-L greetings, Did a cummulative ptf load after a v4r4 install. The cummulative ptf's were on 3 cd's. The system is a very fast, non geared down 720. The cover letter said the ptf process would take from 4 to 8 hours. But it actually took 1 hour to load, apply and complete the auto ipl. ( 17:57:31 to 18:47:50 ) The history log msgs ( listed below ) show no indication of error. What does ibm base its time estimates on? This is not a trivial question. Misstating the estimate results in much wasted time double and triple checking to make sure that nothing was missed, that the system is running ok. Steve Richter the history log says: Loading of PTFs started. Loading of PTFs completed successfully. Marking of PTFs for delayed application started.
