Tape drive trouble -- MIDRANGE-L

Some time ago, IBM discontinued the 6385 1/4" 13GB tape drive, and now the
media for this drive seems to also have disappeared. According to my
suppliers, the recommended replacement cartridges are the 26GB tapes. Is
anyone using these cartridges successfully in a 13GB drive? I've tried a
couple, and have noticed a high frequency of media errors halting the backup
process. The drive has been replaced, yet the failures persist, so I'm
wondering if anyone else has seen similar problems.
