PTF SF62142 is available for V4R5 that adds a parameter to the command,
RPLNULLVAL, that makes the command use field default values instead of
*NULL.

You may try to find if there is a PTF for your release.

We loved this change.

Subject: Null field processing

We have a comma delimited file from a p/c (actually an EXCEL exported file)
that we transferred to the AS400. We want to copy that file into a database
file in order to get a fixed length record file. We have attempted to use
the CPYFRMIMPF command but one field has blanks, and this command interprets
blanks as nulls, and unless we define the database records (in DDS) to allow
nulls, the copy will not work. Even after we have allowed nulls we are
having difficulty with RPG reading the record with "nulls" in the field. The
field in question is defined alphanumeric. Is there a way to get this to
work, or is there an easier way to perform this process - get a comma
delimited file to a flat, fixed record, and fixed field length file.
