Phil,
Maybe this command will help; ls -ltr. It list each file in the
directory by date order and also the size. The last file on the list is the
latest one created.

Is there an efficient way of doing this?

I retrieve creation dates for stream files but I'm checking a particular
directory. Opening every directory off of root, and then getting the size
of every object in every directory seems like it would take a very long
time - too long for it to be practical.

Or is it?

Phil

You could write a program that goes through all the objects in the IFS
and adds up their sizes, etc. The trick is going to be figuring out
how to store the pathname, since it can potentially be hundreds of bytes
long... :) I don't know if that's a concern for you or not, though...

Do you need an example of how to do this? (in RPG IV?)
