Neil,

When I get an IBM software order, there is a paper document in with the
media, about 5.5x8.5 inches, that has a bunch of paragraphs in different
languages, a couple of barcodes, and the progam name and product number and
a "Proof No". The one I am looking at has a 15 digit decimal number for the
proof number. The IBM publication number of the proof document itself is
GC52-0352-00.

The English paragraph reads, "This is your proof of entitlement to use this
product, subject to the applicable terms and conditions, in the quantity
stated." Incidentally, there is no quantity stated on mine - that field is
blank.

I don't think I get this page with every piece of software. For example, I
do not recall getting one for OS/400, just the separate products like MQ,
VisualAge, compilers, etc. It's possible there is one for OS/400 but I just
don't remember it.

I have never had to use the proof number for anything - always wondered.

Perhaps this is what they are talking about.

In case your not already dealing with these same people, the number I have
for the License Key Group in Boulder is 800-446-8989.

Jim,

Thanks for the suggestion - that was what I had tried first before a few
others mentioned how to display the actual keys.
Turns out even that isn't good enough for IBM - I'm being told they won't
add the software to the customers order record without the "software
serial number". Working with the 400 since 1988 that's the first I've
ever heard of a software serial number. Anyone else know what they're
talking about ?
