  • Subject: Re: Surely OS/400 can host e-mail, can't it?

I think I have the domain name issue solved. My ISP simply changed the "MX"
record associated with my domain name. I now seem to be able to send mail
to myUserID@myDomain.com (for example). But now, sending a message to my
domain seems to cause a never ending loop.

Let's see, how can I describe this problem. When I Work with TCP/IP
Connection Status, my DSL router appears to be connecting to my SMTP server
over and over again. In just a moment, the number of SMTP connection
entries grows to a list of between 25-30. It appears that when one
connection times out, a new one is started to take it's place. The local
port for these connections is 25 (SMTP), but the remote port for each new
connection keeps incrementing. The remote address is my router's public IP
address for every entry.

Before long, my CPU is running at about 90%, all related to SMTP jobs. If I
use STRSST to run a communication trace on my Ethernet line, it takes only
about 10 seconds of monitoring to generate a 500+ page report. The trace
reveals a cyclical dialog between my SMTP server and my DSL router. I can
use ENDTCPSVR *SMTP to stop the cycle. But if I later do STRTCPSVR *SMTP,
the cycle starts again.

Would this behavior be caused by my TCP/IP *DFTROUTE entry, which points
back to router as the next hop?

I'm out of my league with this network issue. I need more information. Any
help appreciated.

Thanks,

Nathan.
