Fran, this was the PERFECT forum to discuss this. Yeah, I'm glad you brought California Software's SHODDY business practices to light, Fran. No doubt you saved OTHER POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS from making the same mistake you did, buying from a company that CAN'T TREAT ITS CUSTOMERS THE RIGHT WAY. Tell them that your discussing their failure to stand behind their products on the midrange-l list and I think they are wrong. Get an AS/400 timeshare account from ediconsulting.com or netshare400.com and get a full blown AS/400 for playing around, and not some knockoff product that breaks down because of a dongle. Has anyone had experience with California Software's Baby400? I bought a version a few years back that required a dongle. Haven't used it a whole lot - just between contracts. Tried it two weeks ago and apparently the dongle quit working. I contacted CA and got a quick turnaround from a sales rep who stated that he would give me a 'free' upgrade if I paid $2,400 for the annual maintenance - which I had never bothered with. My response was that I thought that was pretty steep for a small piece of hardware. (hey don't use dongles anymore.) Bottom line, I have software I cannot use because the hardware doesn't work and they won't replace it....unless I come up with $2,400. Is there a similar product that gives a PC the look and feel of an AS/400. I just want it for messing around between contracts. Again, my apologies if this is the wrong forum.
