It makes sense for an automated job to be able to sign itself into the AS/400, otherwise our overnight SQL Server DTS job would need someone to sign on for it every night at 8pm. I got around it by using CA Express' ability to pass the NT username and password to the AS/400 for validation. The service account SQL Server uses to run the DTS job has an equivalent account on the AS/400 with the same password and signs itself in OK. Only a person who knew the SQL Server service account password could use this to gain access to the AS/400, and these people have high level access to the AS/400 anyway. The situation here is NOT the fact that an automated, tested job requires access, but you want to create unrestricted access to a computer, (AS/400 or whatever). Every place I've worked at , financial, manufacturing etc, the auditors would drag me into their office and demand what the hell I was thinking of. And I quote, "Any type of access REQUIRES some type of key to get in.Period end of story. end of discussion". End quote. Believe me, been there, TRIED to do that (Failed miserably).
