It wasn't appropriate to discuss in the class room but the solution to embedded commas is easy to add to your presentation I believe. The space between quote marks is treated as a constant so you can resolve the comma problem by putting every character field between quotes. Your code would be like this: C EVAL OutRec = '"' + FieldA + '","' + C FieldB + '","' + C FieldC + '"' Notice then that Each Character field is enclosed in commas so embedded commas will not cause you grief. This works. (I do this a lot.) Be cautious of numeric fields; as the fellow in the front row said, they can not be inside quotes. I am very anxious to write to the IFS - thank you John for the how-to lesson. _______________________ Booth Martin Booth@MartinVT.com http://www.MartinVT.com _______________________ +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
