We actually just had this discussion very recently, and I posted some very detailed statistics. To summarize, on a 416CPW model 170 at V4R4, WebSphere takes up .6 (that is, 6/10) of a percent of the CPU as a background task. A well written web application can serve up a 3KB dynamically generated web page in about 100msec, as opposed to a green screen application oiutputting 1920 characters (or less) in about 20msec. For the web app, RPG, servlet and JavaServer Page time are all included in the 100msec. Not too shabby. I have no comparison numbers for a similar CGI-RPG program.
