I don't think a good place to start with VB is from an AS/400 point of view. Why do you ask the question this way? Do you have a specific project to get started on? I have found that the learning curve for VB really had nothing to do with the AS/400. Once you learn the IDE (SEU equivalent), the concept of event driven programming really was the most difficult. One thing about the VB environment is that sample code is quite abundant and reusable components are plentiful. If you wish to purchase a book then 'Hard-core Visual Basic' from Microsoft Press has been my favorite and easier to read than most tech manuals.
