IIRC, we reloaded microcode and upgraded OS/400 on our CISC machines and (almost) never needed the MULIC/FULIC tape. It is my understanding that there is an area on disk that the M/F tape is loaded to that is unaffected by functions of mere mortals, including reloading microcode and upgrading OS/400. This special area was reputed to be the home of the System Serial Number and other things not for the eyes of mortal men. If this area on your disk is still intact, you could be lucky. But your mileage may vary. --Paul E Musselman PaulMmn@Ix.netcom.nospam.com +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
