Dean, This topic has been explored in great depth before in MIDRANGE-L and RPG400-L. I would first recommend you search the archives (www.midrange.com). Short answer - RPG-IV allows you to use a timestamp-type field as the result of a TIME opcode, which returns the time with the three most significant digits of the 6-digit microseconds, which appears to be what you're asking for. (This can't be done in RPG-III.) Bonus caveat: Beware of relying on this to give you a unique value everytime you execute the TIME opcode. I can guarantee you that it is possible to have duplicates with hhmmssnnn. For more discussion on this topic, search the archives for UUID. Dan Bale IT - AS/400 Handleman Company 248-362-4400 Ext. 4952 -------------------------- Original Message -------------------------- Hi all Can anyone help me with the task of sending data to a PC from the AS/400 - one of the fields required by this PC product is a time stamp of the format hhmmssnnn (nnn=milliseconds). I believe it uses it for some kind of archiving. An RPG program formats each record and then sends it to the PC - this unique timestamp is one of the fields within the record. Whilst I can extract hhmmss from the system I can not see how I can obtain milliseconds - is this possible and if so how do I get it? Thank you for any help.
