As ot your question of whether it is a 9402 or a 9404, my understanding is orders for a new box were all type 9402. But orders for an "upgrade" from an older 9404 box were labeled as a 9404-400. I think this has to do with creative accounting and how the box would be reflected on the company books. If IBM didn't need to match your previous type, the box was labeled a 9402. Probably most (all?) documentation will refer to it as a 9402.
