TECH TIP: RESTORING DELETED COMMANDS
http://www.as400network.com/nwn/story.cfm?ID=9397
The December 12 Tech Tip, "Restoring Deleted Commands,"
http://www.as400network.com/news/nwn/story.cfm?ID=9137 described how
to recover deleted command objects by restoring the operating system
using your SAVSYS media. Another option is to selectively restore
the commands from the SAVSYS media.

It's neither necessary nor desirable to include in your backup
strategy a SAVOBJ command that saves all objects in library QSYS.
Using the menu Option 21 on the Save menu (which includes the SAVSYS
command to save objects in QSYS) is a complete backup strategy and
will allow you to restore objects as necessary.

Selectively restoring from the SAVSYS media is supported for certain
object types. Prior to V4R3, a SAVSYS tape contains two files that
end with 0002 and 0003; from these you can use the Restore Object
(RSTOBJ) command. For releases at V4R3 and higher, you will need to
use the Display Tape (DSPTAP) command to determine the file label
name needed to perform the RSTOBJ.

The following object types are restorable using the RSTOBJ command
and specifying one of the following labels, where XX represents the
last two digits of the language feature.

Object Types
*CMD
*FILE (device files)
*GSS
*IGCDCT
*IBCSRT
*JOBD
*MENU
*MSGF
*PNLGRP
*QRYDFN
*SCHIDX

Labels
Q5738SS1220XX0002 for V2R2
Q5738SS1230XX0002 for V2R3
Q5763SS1305XX0002 for V3R0M5
Q5763SS1310XX0002 for V3R1
Q5763SS1320XX0002 for V3R2
Q5716SS1360XX0002 for V3R6
Q5716SS1370XX0002 for V3R7
Q5769SS1410XX0002 for V4R1
Q5769SS1420XX0002 for V4R2

The following object types can be restored using one of the
following labels, where XX is the last two digits of the language
feature:

Object Types
*CFGL
*DTAQ
*FILE
*JOBQ
*JRN
*JRNRCV
*MSGQ
*OUTQ
*SBSD
*USRQ

Labels
Q5738SS1220XX0003 for V2R2
Q5738SS1230XX0003 for V2R3
Q5763SS1305XX0003 for V3R0M5
Q5763SS1310XX0003 for V3R1
Q5763SS1320XX0003 for V3R2
Q5716SS1360XX0003 for V3R6
Q5716SS1370XX0003 for V3R7
Q5769SS1410XX0003 for V4R1
Q5769SS1420XX0003 for V4R2

For releases at V4R3 or higher, you'll first need to use the DSPTAP
(Display Tape) command specifying DATA(*SAVRST) and OUTPUT(*PRINT).
Using the output, determine the Label of where the object is located
and specify the Label on the RSTOBJ (Restore Object ) command.

The remainder of the objects are in the QSYS tape file and cannot be
processed by RSTOBJ command. You need to Restore the Operating
System to restore these objects.
