Hi Alan, If your 9406-300 is NOT mission critical and has been properly maintained, I would keep using it until you merged offices (keeping the IBM maintenance, of course). Terry Alan Jeffries <ivydene40@yahoo.co To: midrange <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com> .uk> cc: Sent by: Subject: Any risk in Cisc owner-midrange-l@mi drange.com 01/26/01 02:36 PM Please respond to MIDRANGE-L Firstly apologies for any puns! We have a model 9406-300 about 5 years old in our Rio office. It is still doing it's job and has not run out of capacity and nor is it likely to. We have business plans to replace this by merging it with our US office in the last quarter of the year. We have IBM maintenance and we just suffered a disc crash which was repaired. Do we face any risks like spare part shortages by staying on this model until it is replaced or should we spend a relatively large amount for a short time and go to RISC (170 or similar)? The current machine has 32mb memory, 4x 6606 2gb drives and a 2gb streamer tape. I would very much appreciate the list's comments.
