Use the *DEVTYPE parm if you are using the SLR5-4GB (8GB with compression) 
tapes, and that will initialize in the QIC4DC format, which is NOT the 
same as the QIC4GB format - although it can be initialized and written in 
that format.  You have the same issue with the 6381 tape where the native 
compression format is QIC2DC, but it will also write (less data) in the 
QIC2GB format of the 6380 tape drive.

If you are not using the SLR5-4GB tapes, (or even if you are for that 
matter) you can use the *CTGTYPE value to make sure you get the proper 
(highest) density supported for the tape you are using.
