  • Subject: OV Search and Replace across Multiple Documents-End of OV
  • From: "Horan, Patrice" <PHoran@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Since most of the replies to my initial search and replace across multiple
documents post advised that OV was going away and recommended that my
company's help system be converted to something that was not dependent on
OV, I felt I should offer this "apologia" before pursuing the question
further:

My company's position on the fact that IBM will no longer be supporting OV
is that this should not affect the use of OV for the help system. Before
IBM's support of OV became an issue, clients who purchased our software did
not need to purchase OV in order for the software's help system to work.
They've assumed that this will continue to be the case after IBM stops
supporting OV. If the help system does not work, they've identified DTM for
AS400 as the tool to use.

So, with that said, I have tried to follow this one suggestion for searching
and replacing text across multiple documents:
<snip>
STROFC #5 - "Documents and folders"
       #3 - "Search for documents"

This can be used to search all documents that contain text and build a list
of documents that contain your search text. You can then edit each
document. Build a macro for your search / replace. Not exactly what you
were looking for, but a step in the right direction.
<snip>

In Search for Documents, I type a description, Y to wait for completion, Y
to arrange alphabetically, *nomax; then press F9. In Specify Document Text
Criteria, I type a phrase that needs to be updated. I leave And/Or/And not
blank. I type Y for exact match and N for synonym. I then press F10 to start
the search.

Then I get the following messages:
Request to search for documents failed.
Search function is not available.
Request to search for document not successful.

I have reviewed these errors w/ ops. He thinks that it has something to do
with the text search function. He says that this is installed on our system,
but it is still in its initial state.

Please tell me-- what are the prerequisites for a "Search for documents" and
how to complete them.
