Mark, I am using a numeric IP address. My HOST file does contain the correct IP address and system name on the PC that has the 30-second delay. On the PC that has no delay the HOST file contains an irrelevant old IP address that doesn't point to a valid system anymore, yet FTP connect is instantaneous.
