Residency Announcement: AS-1324 HTTP Server for iSeries (Powered by Apache)-Stage II Benefits to Resident: Strengthen your e-business environment by gaining practical experience across all areas of iSeries Web serving. Almost all e-business conducted on the iSeries system is done via a Web server. This core discipline will be the primary residency focus. Residents will also learn to better articulate to your customers the future advantages and technical details of several planned Web server enhancements. The Services, IBM, and Business Partner communities can surely leverage this early involvement. In addition, this residency offers the opportunity to: - Gain knowledge to explain and assist customers in implementing e-business solutions focused on the Web server (where all good e-business solutions start). - Through direct discussions with the developers responsible for the design and implementation of the iSeries, you will acquire sophisticated technical skills that are in very high demand in today's marketplace. - Be part of the elite iSeries technical community, exchanging knowledge and ideas with some of the world's top iSeries system experts. - Learn about IBM plans and strategies, information that will help you to provide strategic advice to the customers you support for the year 2001. This Rochester residency begins 05 Mar 2001, ends 13 Apr 2001 (6 weeks), and requires 4 residents. Please submit nominations by 29 Jan 2001. For especially well qualified nominees, the dates and duration of this residency are negotiable. Description: By the end of the year 2000 (planned availability date is 15 Dec 2000) the iSeries will have a new Web server named IBM HTTP Server for iSeries (Powered by Apache). Currently, Apache servers power over half of the world's Web sites. This new Web server will not immediately replace IBM HTTP Server for iSeries (original), but it will give our customers more choices. These new choices require more education and a new Redpiece. Objectives: This project will update and finalize a presentation that was created at the end of 2000 with hands-on labs that demonstrate the tremendous advantage that iSeries brings to our customers in the area of Web servers. In addition, you will create an ITSO Redpiece that will enable IBMers, Business Partners, and our customers to start using IBM HTTP Server for AS/400 (Powered by Apache) in pre-production environments. This residency is suitable for Customers, Business Partners, and IBMers. A basic requirement for all residents is the ability to read and clearly express concepts and procedures in common English. Resident Prerequisites: All residents will be required to spend approximately 8 hours in preparation work BEFORE coming to Rochester. This time will be spent in study to best prepare you for the new features and products on the iSeries. A wide range of skills are needed for the success of this residency and you must be able to jump in and run right away. Skill levels below are from 5 to 1, where 5 = expert skill and 1 = no skill. You personally do not have to have all of these skills to be considered a good candidate for this residency. The project leader will match your skills with that of the other nominations to put together the best team possible. The ITSO Residency program has been honed over many years to provide the maximum benefit to residents and their businesses. IBM organizations, Business Partners, and customers that have provided residents report that the returning employee has gained significant new skills to enable them to support IBM's latest products. These skills can be employed either directly for services generation or indirectly in technical support of the sales effort. Furthermore, the contacts made by the resident within the development community and with the other residents are invaluable in keeping these skills up-to-date. - - - You received this because you are registered with IBM Redbooks and subscribed for our e-mail service.
