The procedure via DST should be:
- Add the new disks to the same ASP as the 9337's
- Make sure sufficient capacity is available in the ASP to remove the 9337's
- Remove all the 9337's from the ASP (all at once, and no need to alter Device Parity protection)
- Add the 9337's to a new ASP

Can't really guesstimate the time, but a WAG would be about 4 to 6 hours for the above.
Depending on how evenly data is spread when you are finished, you may want to look into the STRASPBAL command (does not require a dedicated system).  Actually, that became available at V4R4.  There was a way to do this via the DSKBAL command on V4R3 (you should already have PTF SF49675) but DSKBAL only balanced disks during next IPL, you could not run it  anytime like STRASPBAL, so why not go to V4R5 as you are on software subscription anyway ?

Question - you're adding only three 6824's, so no requirement for RAID-5 on these new disks ??
That seems strange as the 9337's are RAIDed.  Unless you already have some 6824's in a RAID set and are adding 3 disks to that set ?
If so, how many disks will there be in that 6824 RAID set ?
Also, even though the new disks are faster than the 9337's, have you considered the impact on performance of replacing 24 disk arms with 3 (especially three of the 17.5GB drives) ?

Hi all,

Next week I plan to add 3 new #6824 disks to out 720 (V4R3) in an attempt to
remove 24 old #9337's from our main ASP config, I will be keeping the old
disks to create a second ASP for non business critical data.
My question's are : when I come to move the data off the 9337's across to
the rest of the disks what exactly is involved, will I have to suspend RAID,
do I have to do 1 tray of disks (i.e. 1 parity set) at a time ?
SST shows 2 parity sets of 8 disks each and 2 parity sets of 4 disks each.
Also any guesses on how long it will take to transfer the data across, the
disks are about 85% full at present
Also if there's anything I haven't thought of !!!

Any help or advice greatly appreciated

regards

Neil
