Dear Mr. Geezer, The infrared detector idea is commonly used in most Central monitoring stations that are UL approved. It's called a dead man detector so that if something happens and there is no movement for more than one minute, it goes off and alerts another monitoring facility and the situation can be investigated. We used to set ours off on purpose just to see who all would come running and how fast. We kept management busy in that manner.
